OTTAWA — Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth went out for a little walk in the cold Tuesday night in Ottawa and set the city’s social media ablaze.
BlackBerrys and iPhones around the capital were buzzing with pictures of the two young stars, who are visiting Ottawa.
Cyrus, a singer and star of erstwhile television show Hannah Montana, is in town to accompany her fiancé, Hemsworth, star of The Hunger Games, who is working on a project in the capital.
The 20-year-old singer and her 23-year-old husband-to-be are just the right age to be Twitter royalty, and it showed, as the social network lit up with news of people meeting the couple as they went for a stroll into the Chapters-Indigo Books store in the ByWard Market.
Mounir Khoury, who works at the bookstore, said the couple, dressed in sweatshirts and without winter coats on the -22 night, posed for pictures with staff and customers but became fidgety when people started to take pictures surreptitiously from behind posts.
“She was annoyed,” Khoury said.
Kirsten Strom, the Starbucks coffee barista who served them — a solo espresso for him and a venue skinny vanilla late for her — said the couple were freezing when they first came in.
All the more so, given where they had just been vacationing.
“They said they had just come from Costa Rica,” Strom said.
